Materials in contact with drinking water and
building products in contact with drinking water

Strict requirements are necessary for materials

The impact of materials on drinking water must be minimized. This is stipulated in the Drinking Water Ordinance and is put into practice with the aid of numerous DVGW (German Association for Gas and Water) guidelines and worksheets. Suitable materials ensure that substances cannot migrate into drinking water at levels exceeding the permissible limit values. Additionally, they must not promote bacterial growth.

The influence of building materials on soil and ground water has to be examined pursuant to a memorandum of the German Institute for Structural Engineering. Again, minimization of the migration of substances from all materials used applies.
